Steven Johnson on WBUR -- and in the flesh!

Steven Johnson, author of Everything Bad Is Good For You: How Today's Pop Culture is Actually Making Us Smarter, will be on The Connection with Dick Gordon this morning at 10:00 a.m.

He will also be speaking at the Harvard Book Store (not the Coop) this afternoon at 6:30. This book could be the thesis to my life!

Bike Week

This week is Bike Week here in Massachusetts (and elsewhere in the U.S.?). What that means is that if you normally drive to work or school, you are encouraged to try biking instead. I don't what the position is on commuters...

The bottom line is you can bike around town this week, stuff your self with free breakfasts and meet other members of the biking populace. MassBike seems to have redesigned their site and they've got the full roster of activities listed.

Yesterday was a great pancake breakfast at Broadway Bicycle in Cambridge. This morning, it's free breakfast at Au Bon Pain in Harvard Square. That ends at 9:30, so I should get going, I guess.

Back from London

We got back this evening from our whirlwind weekend in London. The weather was outstanding sunshine, compared to the cold grey rain in Boston. We saw CREAM play their final (for now) show at the Royal Albert Hall -- outstanding! Our seats were in the top tier, front row in front of the circular walkway, so we could lean over the balcony and had no one behind us. We were "stage right", so we were near Clapton.

I'll post some pics (and video!) later, along with a full review.

Cremora!

As promised, I've dusted off the photo albums, and created a quick collage of The Cremora -- the Cream tribute band I had way back when. The images in this collage are from the legendary rooftop concert in July, 1990.

Cream Reunion - Night Two

There's not the flurry of reviews for the second night of Cream's four night stint at the Albert Hall that came after the first show.

Modern Guitars does review last night's show: same set as night one, but it definitely sounds like they are starting to gel! Bring on Friday!

Also, the BBC has a short video report off of their entertainment site, including some clips from Monday's gig!

Cream 2005 active

The cream2005.com site has been activated (and despite registering for updates a few weeks back, I never received notice of this!) The site has an active messageboard with some good comments (and pictures) from the reunion shows this week at the Royal Albert Hall.

Reviews from the second night should start coming in soon!

Refeeding!

I've set up my RSS feed AGAIN as my friend Steve informed me that he's not seeing any new updates.

So you may need to resubscribe to get updates (I'm now testing with Bloglines).

Cream Reunion Review - Night One

The first reviews are in for the Cream reunion concerts taking place this week. The Times Online has a good detailed review -- biggest surprise number? Pressed Rat and Warthog!

Update:
Reviews have popped up on this side of the pond, as the venerable New York Times gives their opinion on last night's show. Most of the reviews I've seen have stated that Cream seemed somewhat tentative -- a little too tight. This makes me more hopeful that by Friday night (when I see them), they'll have gotten a little sick and angry at each other. Thus leading to some incendiary performances! The closing remarks on the NY Times review give hope:

In a set that lasted less than two hours, there was ample room for songs to expand if the chemistry was right. With any luck, Cream was just getting reignited.

Marjane Satrapi @ The Coolidge

My wife and I are going to see Marjane Satrapi read from her new graphic novel Embroideries at the Coolidge Corner Theatre tonight at 6 p.m.

How do you do a graphic novel reading? Maybe she'll project images from the book? I saw Art Spiegelman do that years ago at the Brattle, when he was promoting the Maus CD-ROM.
