Hosey's Back!

My trusty '86 Audi, affectionately known as "Hosey", passed inspection on Friday! Hosey has been an integral part of many of my projects over the last few years, especially the Transportation Pioneer project and Three Abreast.

I'm thinking of a new project for her...

Washington, Wizard of Was

John Carrera has posted a QuickTime version of his animation collaboration with Jeff Silas. Johnny had this piece up at his show in Salem (which is still up until next Thursday) and it was a nice complement to the other 2-D work in the show.

My Running Blog

I've set up a running blog to keep track of my training runs (wish I'd started a month ago!)

My running schedule is basically Sat, Sun, Tues, Thurs.

I've been running around Jamaica Pond a lot, as it's a set distance and I can monitor progress. Still, it's good to mix it up every now and then.

I need to find a fun 5K to do sometime in the next month or so. Something where you get a cool t-shirt (and beer).

Return of The Cream

After months of meandering rumours (note British spelling), "The Cream" have officially announced that they will play Madison Square Garden next month. Very exciting!

I saw Cream play their final show at the Royal Albert Hall a few months back. (That previous sentence would have implied some sort of temporal fissure if written even one year ago!) I've got tickets to the final night at MSG.

And it seems as if tickets are still available as of today.

Meanwhile, Rhino has a nice clip of "White Room" from the forthcoming Albert Hall shows DVD on their site.

Art Show Down!

Art Show Down is a kind of game show come art experience.

Or art exhibit as game show?

Or something like that?

Whatever it is, it will be filmed by CCTV over at the Art Interactive gallery with an exciting, live rip-roaring finale. I'm one of the artists in the show... and perhaps I'll play one on TV, as well.

Check out the official show site and note a fab-o fundraiser/ho'down coming up this Saturday -- admission gets you all the beer you want!

"Pursuing Happiness in a Time of Terror"

My good friend John Carrera is having a show of his "transformed currencies" at the Winfisky Gallery at Salem State College. The opening is this Wednesday, September 14th from 2-3 p.m. I saw some of this work at Johnny's show up in Portland, Maine last year and it's quite remarkable!

MIT Press Bookstore

We went to the MIT Press Bookstore last night. I love that place! In a few minutes my arms are always full (of books). My tally from yesterday:

  • Make Magazine, issues 1 and 2. I finally found this magazine a few weeks ago (the third issue), so I completed my collection with these back issues. Very nifty stuff for those prone to tinkering.

  • Leonardo: the Journal of the International Society for the Arts, Sciences and Technology. A nice 'brainy' compliment to Make!

  • Twisty Little Passages. This book looks at the phenomenon of text adventure games. I got hooked on playing Scott Adams' games on the Apple II+ back in 1981 -- "Say Yoho!"

Chuk-chuk-chuk

My computer started making a scary sound a few weeks back... "Chuk-chuk-chuk". I feared the hard drive might be going at first, but then I discovered some horrifying dust beasts swarming at the fan. I vanquished them with a dustbuster and some swiffers and thought I'd be back on easy street.

But soon enough, "Chuk-chuk-chuk!" -- like The Tell-tale Heart!

I've run some diagnostics and things *seem* to be okay. I have an added internal drive inside (it's a Mac G4 tower) so I'm not sure what's really making the noise. I have my camera at the ready to capture the sound if it returns.

Which leads me to ponder the mortality of my computer. I remember thinking that I wanted a good five years out of it when I bought it... five years ago (I believe it arrived at my house on September 30, 2000). It got me through grad school, into my current job and chugged through many a crazy project. Plus, these new Macs can run circles around it (soon an iPod will be more powerful).

So my wife and I are looking for a new Mac. We considered the Mac mini, but I think we want to rid us of my ginormous monitor to free up some desk space. So we're thinking of the G5 iMacs -- they seem quite robust and have a small overall footprint.

And I think I'll lower my life expectancy to three years -- enough to bridge the gap before Apple starts using Intel chips. Do I have some sort of farewell for my machine. Or toss it out the window ala SCTV?
